Mike Johnson recently completed his senior season as the starting
tight end and long snapper at Wayne State University. For the past two
summers, Mike has implemented speed development programs at some of the
top high schools in the state, including Chippewa Valley, Macomb Dakota,
and Maple Valley high schools.
Mike has attended nine of Gene Noonan’s Faster
Results speed development clinics both as a participant and as a coach.
Coach Noonan has used his knowledge of speed development and training
techniques for a number of notable programs, including the Chicago Bulls,
Detroit Lions, and Texas A&M. Together, Mike and Coach Noonan are
contemplating options that will allow Mike to continue his football career
after college. They have also presented Coach Noonan’s program at
the MITCA clinic in Lansing, where it was positively received.

After completing his collegiate career as a standout outside linebacker for
Hope College, Mike Sparks remained at Hope working as
a student assistant. From there, Mike traveled to Germany to play and
coach professional football. Later in his career, Coach Sparks filled
the head varsity football coach and athletic director positions at Bellevue
High School. Currently, Coach Sparks is the athletic director at Maple
Valley High School. He spends the rest of his time as the linebacker coach
at Olivet College, where he has also served as the defensive coordinator.

BenFarkas is a graduate of Kalamazoo College, where he played football
for four years and started at wide receiver. He is currently pursuing
a master’s degree in athletic administration at Western Michigan
University. As part of his graduate program, Ben instructs classes in
the department of health, physical education, and recreation.

Craig DeLeon is a graduate from Northern Michigan University,
with a bachelor’s of science degree in health and fitness management.
While attending school Craig competed in football for Northern, lettering
four times playing all four defensive line positions as well as long snapping.
Currently coaches 7th grade football for Wyandotte Middle School. Craig
brings a wealth of knowledge with him in strength and speed training.
He has also devoted to helping young athletes achieve their dreams.

Bre
Detrick is a recent graduate of Wayne State University with a
Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Communication.
She played volleyball at Wayne State for 2 years and prior to that at
Owens Community College. Bre has always had a passion for coaching. She
has coached for Premier Volleyball Club and served as the student assistant
coach at Wayne State. She also has been a court coach for University of
Michigan and Eastern Michigan University summer volleyball camps. She
brings a great deal of knowledge to the program as she is a certified
personal trainer and has worked in the fitness industry for 8 years and
knows what it takes to be a successful athlete. Bre is currently the first
Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at the University of Louisiana
at Monroe, a Division I volleyball program.

Brock Peters is a 1999 graduate of Albion College. While there, Brock
was a point guard for the Albion College men’s basketball team.
Brock recently received his master’s degree in Educational Leadership
from Saginaw Valley State University. He is currently a K-5 physical education
teacher for Warren Woods Public Schools. Brock also coaches 7th grade
basketball and varsity football at Warren Woods Tower High School. He
is not only interested in working with high school aged athletes, but
also has a passion for working with and training elementary and middle
school aged athletes who are serious about their athletic careers.

Jon Herstien
finished his four years of college football at Wayne State University
where he played primary offensive tackle and guard. He is currently
finishing up his B.A. in Health (major) and Kinesiology (minor).
This fall Jon will be working on a post bachelor’s certificate
in adapted P.E. Jon was a state champion wrestler at Fenton High
School. Jon brings a great deal of knowledge in strenghth and speed
to Xceleration. He is very dedicated to helping
young athletes achieve there dreams.

Justin McHugh
is a recent Graduate of Alma College with a B.A. in Liberal Arts
and a major in Philosophy. While attending Alma he was a four year
starter at corner back and he was also a four year All-Conference
selection as a Return Specialist. He also ran track for the Scots
and was a conference finalist in the 100m dash and a member of the
third place 4x100m relay team in 2001. He is currently pursuing
a NESTA Speed, Agility, and Quickness instruction certification.
Justin is very passionate about passing on his knowledge of speed
and quickness and loves to inspire young athletes who want to take
their game to the next level.

Eric Appiah
is a graduate of Trinity International University were he played
football and started for four years. Eric graduated with a bachelors in
Sports Medicine/athletic training, and minored as a fitness specialist.
He is currently pursuing a masters degree at Western Michigan
University in Exercise Science. His main main focus is speed
development.

Kristi Thome
currently is attending Wayne State University, where she played hockey
for four years and served as an assistant captain for the last two
years. She is currently pursuing a degree in elementary Education
at WSU. Prior to WSU Kristi played 5 years for the Ohio Flames
Women Hockey Team where she held the captain position for three
years. She also played 6 years of competitive softball for Team
Ohio and followed up with it by coach softball camps in the
summer. Kristi brings a true passion for working with children of
all ages to them fulfil their dreams in having successful athletic
careers. Kristi will many be working in Xceleration’s youth speed
and agility camps.

Peyton Patterson
is currently in her Senior year at Wayne State University. She is
originally from Brampton Ontario and is attending WSU on a varsity Ice
Hockey scholarship as a defenseman. She is majoring in Physical
Education, while taking a minor in Health Education. Peyton will be
graduating in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She
hopes to pursue her dream of becoming an elementary physical education
teacher in the near future. In the past Peyton has been competitively
involved in field lacrosse, softball, and ice hockey. During this time
she also coached House League lacrosse for 3 summers; kids ranging from
7-10 years of age. Peyton has a passion for both sports and children,
and is eager to be involved with making good players in to great
players. Peyton will being mainly working in Xceleration’s youth
program.

Jeremy
is a newcomer to the Xceleration staff. He is a graduate of Kalamazoo
College, where he played middle linebacker his freshman and sophomore
seasons. While on study abroad in France Jeremy started for his
school's rugby team, which advanced to the national quarterfinals.
Jeremy has spent the last two seasons coaching wrestling at Olivet high
school, and he is currently finishing up with his master's at Western
Michigan University.

Joe Ballard
has recently completed his senior year at Grand Valley State University
where he was a three year starter as a strong safety. In the three
years that Joe played for Grand Valley, they won three national titles
and two GLIAC conference titles. Joe prepped at Chesaning Union High
school where he won a State title as a junior.
Much of Joe's success on the field has to do with the Commitment to a
program similar to the Xceleration program. Joe has been speed training
and weight training since his freshmen year of high school where he
worked with Jim Szappan. He is proof that speed development and
training are vital to an athletes success!
Joe Is now working at Northern Michigan University where he is the running backs coach.

Matt Koyl
is a 2002 graduate from Michigan State University. During his high school career, Matt competed in football, wrestling and baseball earning 10 varsity letters (6 times as a team captain). As a Spartan, he competed for four years on the wrestling team and received degrees in both Lyman Briggs Human Biology and Kinesiology (exercise science). Currently, Matt works as a certified personal trainer and varsity wrestling coach for the Battle Creek Pennfield Panthers. Coach Koyl brings a wealth of sport training experience to the Xceleration team as well as a passion for working with dedicated athletes of any age and skill level.

and experience to provide top instruction and inspire young athletes to
